Ten people were at the Legion board room last Wednesday for a noon hour discussion on the development of a graffiti program.
Launched three years ago, the program brings in men from the Remand Centre approximately twice a week to clean up graffiti in town.
This year, the program received $5,000 in grant money from the town meant to go towards graffiti kits which include a removal spray.
"We're just a few people and we need business to talk to people they work with and see every day about helping," said Coun. Jason Heistad, leading the program to chamber members at the meeting.
He wants to get the word out about the kits, which he hopes community members might be on board with using.
"It could be something like the Green and clean initiative," said Heistad of a program launched last spring which saw 450 community members come out for the kick off party for the first ever town clean up.
"People could take a kit and be responsible for one or two blocks in their area for the small stuff like graffiti on stop signs and mail boxes," he said as examples.
Bigger projects, such as graffiti on the backs of buildings and businesses would be cleaned by the Remand group.
"All it costs businesses is rollers and paint," he pitched to audience.
"The goal is to make Innisfail look better."
Jane Duncalfe, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce said while it was a small showing, the people present were interested in the program.
"I think it's a great initiative."
Heistad said anyone interested in taking a kit for their neighborhood is asked to call the town office at 403-227-3376. He also hopes to speak with other groups in town including schools and the Rotary Club to get the word out to more people.
