Public consumption of cannabis in Penhold

PENHOLD – The Town of Penhold has passed its Community Standards Bylaw, which will regulate public consumption of cannabis once it becomes legal on Oct. 17.

Penhold’s Community Standards Bylaw defines where locals and visitors can consume cannabis when it becomes legal next month.

PENHOLD – The Town of Penhold has passed its Community Standards Bylaw, which will regulate public consumption of cannabis once it becomes legal on Oct. 17.

As stated in the bylaw, members of the public must adhere to the following regulations for public consumption of cannabis.  A person cannot smoke, vape or consume cannabis or tobacco

  • inside a public building
  • on a public patio
  • inside a public vehicle
  • within five metres of a public entrance, exit, overhead door, window, fresh air intake, patio or upon any municipal property
  • within 20 metres of a playground, seasonal skating rink, skate park, sports field or water spray park
  • within 100 metres of a school, schoolyard, or daycare
  • in a workplace
  • within a no smoking area
  • anywhere where minors are present

The bylaw also states that adults over 18 years of age will only be allowed to possess up to 30 grams of (dried) cannabis in a public place, as per possession limits for cannabis products as outlined in the Cannabis Act.
