Town council was considering a land-swap proposal during their Aug. 13 meeting.
The swap would see the town trade some land with a local company that has fenced an area of town land bordered by Highway 54, 42A Street and 61 Avenue.
Currently, the fenced land is owned by the town and zoned as municipal reserve. Under the plan, the municipal reserve designation would be removed and re-designated as an industrial district, the sliver of land would be subdivided off and sold at fair market value in exchange for a 12 feet by 10 feet section of property along 42A Street.
The 12 feet by 10 feet section of property along 42A Street would see its designation change from industrial district to public district and belong to the town so they can access a sewer line.
Council passed the first reading of the bylaw that would change the designations on both pieces of property. Before the second and third readings are held, a public hearing will be held September 10 at 7 p.m. in the council chambers, said Craig Teal, director of planning and development for the town.
“We needed to start the process,” he said.
