Police are asking for anyone in town with a security camera to assist them in their ongoing investigation into the death of Vicky Shachtay on Nov. 25.
As of Monday, Sgt. Patrick Webb said only one or two people had come forward with footage.
“We are optimistic more will come in,” he said adding that the word is still getting out. He said police are looking for footage from anyone living within Innisfail.
Police are asking for the public to contact the Innisfail detachment if they have any security cameras focused on adjacent streets that were recording during the evening of Nov. 24 and the early morning hours of Nov. 25. They want to hear from anyone in town with a security camera installed.
Police said images on these cameras might be important in identifying the individual or individuals who placed the explosive package outside Shachtay’s home.
Shachtay, 23, died around 9a.m. that morning in her ground level apartment after opening a package that triggered an explosive device inside.
RCMP have since confirmed that her death was targeted and the result of a homicide. Shachtay was confined to a wheelchair and had a seven-year-old daughter who was not at home at the time of the explosion. Shachtay’s caregiver was in the apartment but was not injured.
“Certainly people are looking for, and hoping something happens sooner or later,” said Dave Wiebe, pastor at the Innisfail Alliance Church where Shachtay was a parishioner.
The Innisfail RCMP can be reached at 403-227-3342. Anyone with information is asked to call the RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
