RED DEER -  RCMP have nabbed a Fort Saskatchewan man in connection to a car theft earlier this month in Innisfail.

Red Deer RCMP Cpl. Candace Hrdlicka said in a media release issued Friday that the detachment’s Crime Reduction Team (CRT) located a car in Innisfail that had been reported stolen on Dec. 5.

Hrdlicka said police followed the vehicle and attempted to stop the driver but he tried to run away.

After a brief foot chase, the CRT arrested a 52-year-old male, a resident of Fort Saskatchewan, said Hrdlicka.

She said the captured suspect, whose name has not yet been released, has been charged with:

• theft of a car;

• resisting arrest;

• driving while prohibited;

• failing to comply with release order;

• failing to comply with an undertaking;

• possession of a weapon;

• two counts of possession of controlled substance; and

• driving without valid insurance.

Hrdlicka said the suspect is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on Jan. 31.
