INNISFAIL – Multiple driving offences have been laid against a speeding motorist following a serious crash on Highway 2.
RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said in a media release issued today that Alberta RCMP Traffic Services in Innisfail started receiving reports at about 10:15 a.m. on Sept. 11 of a vehicle going in excess of 160 kilometres an hour (km/h) on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway, otherwise known as Highway 2.
Savinkoff said a few minutes after the last sighting, the suspect vehicle lost control while attempting to pass a vehicle on the shoulder and crashed near Highway 42.
He said Blackfalds RCMP officers quickly attended the scene and located the driver.
The male driver and lone occupant of the vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital, said Savinkoff.
He said while the investigation is continuing, the driver of the vehicle has already been charged with multiple traffic offences, including a provincial suspension for impaired driving.
Savinkoff praised other motorists who reported the alleged dangerous driver, as well as those who stopped and assisted following the collision.
