INNISFAIL – RCMP are pursuing two suspects for a pair of hit-and-run incidents that occurred in Penhold on Monday (Jan. 7) afternoon.
Innisfail RCMP Sgt. Lori Eiler said in a press release that local Mounties were called to investigate the first hit-and-run incident at 1:44 p.m.
She said two vehicles parked on a residential street in Penhold were struck and damaged, with pieces of the suspect vehicle left behind at the scene.
RCMP began an investigation into the incident and while patrolling the area, noted a Dodge Ram truck with damages to the front end that appeared to match the suspect vehicle from the hit-and-run complaint, said Eiler.
She said RCMP attempted to stop the Dodge Ram but the driver refused and continued to flee. Eiler said the police pursuit was ultimately called off due to the vehicle’s driving pattern and public safety concerns.
Police continued patrols of the area and soon arrived at the location of another collision in Penhold involving the suspect Dodge truck and another vehicle, a Ford Flex.
Eiler said there were minor injuries sustained in this collision and one Ford Flex occupant was treated by ambulance personnel and released at the scene.
In the meantime, the occupants of the suspect Dodge truck fled on foot.
Eiler said RCMP members from Innisfail, Traffic Services, peace officers from Penhold and Red Deer County, and Red Deer Police Dog Services combined to contain the area and attempt to locate and apprehend the two male suspects. She said attempts to locate the suspects were unsuccessful.
Eiler said the police probe revealed the suspects fled in a silver Dodge Caravan.
She said the first suspect is described as a Caucasian male wearing blue coveralls and a baseball hat. The second suspect is described as a Caucasian male in his early 20s, wearing a black baseball hat, black hoodie with white lettering up the left sleeve, black pants and having a thin build.
The RCMP investigation continues.
