Innisfail RCMP is investigating a collision between a Chevrolet pick up truck and a CP Rail train that took place Sunday afternoon just north of Innisfail.

At approximately 1:15 p.m. on June 5 RCMP responded to an injury collision at the railway crossing at township 362 and highway 2A approximately four kilometers north of Innisfail.

The eastbound pickup truck was struck by a northbound train and carried for half a kilometre down the tracks. There was no derailment and all of the cars remained on the track but the 24-year-old male driver of the vehicle was transported by ambulance to the Red Deer Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The young male from Springbrook was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

Alcohol was not a factor in the collision and the weather was clear and sunny at the time said a press release from Innisfail RCMP.

Last year’s rally raised over $85,000 – a target organizers are hoping to exceed this year. Over $70,000 has already been raised this year, but more help is needed to reach the goal of $100,000.

Arson under investigation

Innisfail RCMP are looking for the public’s help after a car was torched outside an apartment building last month.

According to police, a person set fire to a 1995 Dodge Neon outside the building at 5117 56 St. sometime between 11:15 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on May 22. RCMP Cpl. Rochelle Becker said the vehicle was a complete write-off.

“It was completely engulfed,” Becker said. “I would say (it was) totalled.”

Becker said the Innisfail Fire Department responded to the scene and doused the flames.

“At this point there are no suspects,” she said. “We’re looking for the public’s help.”

A 1979 Ford F150 truck was also damaged.

Becker asked anyone with information to contact Innisfail RCMP at (403) 227-3342 or call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Innisfail Library vandalized

Innisfail RCMP are looking for suspects after the letters “AGK” were spray painted on the side of Innisfail Public Library sometime between May 31 and June 1.

Similar lettering has been tagged in other areas of the community, and linked to other unsolved mischief cases.

Cpl. Rochelle Becker said the RCMP is relying on the public to come forward with information on the case.

“We don’t have any suspects, and there were no witnesses to the event,” she said.

Anyone with information on this or any other crime is asked to contact the Innisfail RCMP at (403) 227-3342, or call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or via the Internet at www.tipsubmit.com.
