Mounties in Blackfalds are trying to determine how a vehicle licence plate belonging to an alleged victim of an attempted murder found its way to the front door of the Innisfail RCMP detachment.

Blackfalds RCMP issued an updated news release on March 2 that it was seeking the public's assistance in an ongoing attempted murder case stemming from an early morning Feb. 25 incident at a rural residence in Red Deer County.

Blackfalds RCMP Sgt. Whitney Benoit said the victim's vehicle was stolen in the area of Twp. Rd. 380 and Rge. Rd. 250, about 45 kilometres northeast of Innisfail. She said the vehicle was located in the area of Rge. Rd. 280 and Highway 11A, about 35 km west of where it was stolen and 35 km north of Innisfail.

“That plate was actually on our victim's vehicle when the vehicle was stolen, and when we recovered the vehicle there was a different plate on it,” Benoit told the Province. “The victim's plate was left on the front door of the Innisfail detachment. We want to speak to the person who put it there, to find out where they found it, time frame and things like that, just to give us a better idea where it was located.”

Blackfalds RCMP issued its first media release on the alleged attempted murder incident on Feb. 25. Mounties said the victim was assaulted by an unknown suspect, who then fled the scene in the victim's vehicle. The victim was transported to the hospital where he is being treated for his serious injuries.

The RCMP is not releasing further details of the alleged attempted murder at this time. However, they describe the male suspect as being Caucasian, between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a skinny build, short hair, wearing camo pants, jacket and black tuque.

Police said the suspect is considered armed and dangerous, and are warning the public not to approach him and to phone the RCMP immediately.

If any citizen has information about this incident or suspect, or how the victim's licence plate was delivered to Innisfail, call the Blackfalds RCMP at 403-885-3300 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or by Internet at www.tipsubmit.com.
