Second-year Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools superintendent Dr. Kathleen Finnigan says she hopes to use the results educational research she conducted as part of her doctoral studies to help students in the division achieve their educational goals.
Finnigan recently received her Doctorate of Education from the Werkland School of Education at the University of Calgary.
Her research focused on educational research within the kindergarten to Grade 12 system, with a specialization in educational leadership.
“This educational journey provided me with opportunities to learn and understand more deeply the importance of high-leverage leadership practices that positively influence teachers’ instructional practices and in turn, and most importantly, student achievement,” Finnigan said in a news release.
“As a result of my learning, I believe our division will benefit as we continue to put research into practice, knowing that the ultimate goal of our work together is increased student learning and well-being.”
Anne Marie Watson is the first-year chair of Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools.
“The Board of Trustees is very proud of Dr. Finnigan’s accomplishment. She’s worked very hard and her research will greatly benefit the division,” said Watson.
The 10,480-student division operates 20 schools, including in Olds and Innisfail.
