RED DEER COUNTY - As of 11 a.m. on Thursday, Red Deer County has downgraded its fire restriction to a fire advisory.
Red Deer County Fire Chief Drayton Bussiere ordered a fire restriction on April 19 which prohibited all new outdoor fires within the boundaries of the county and no new fire permits were issued.
Under the May 2 fire advisory, fire permits will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and only one day permits will be issued.
Residents are reminded that residential fire pits and any burn operations must comply with Red Deer County Fire Services Bylaw 2012/14.
As off-Highway vehicles can start wildfires, the advisory advises checking frequently to ensure hotspots are free of debris and making sure mufflers and spark arrestors are working properly.
Much of the county has received precipitation, including snow, in the last few days.
