A Red Deer County woman is facing two possession of stolen property charges, including one in connection to a motor vehicle, after police observed suspicious activity outside an apartment building.
In a news release issued on March 22, Red Deer RCMP said at about 10 a.m. on March 15 its Crime Reduction Unit was conducting proactive patrols of strategic crime locations in Red Deer’s north end when a member observed a suspicious vehicle idling outside an apartment building in the Pines neighbourhood.
RCMP said the police officer ran the licence plate and discovered it had been reported stolen five days earlier in Lacombe.
The member observed the vehicle and its three occupants as it travelled throughout the city and into the county, said RCMP.
During the surveillance, the vehicle’s licence plate was changed to another plate, said RCMP. This plate’s registration also did not match the vehicle.
RCMP said at about 11:30 a.m. the vehicle stopped at a north end scrap metal business and the three occupants exited.
At this time, the RCMP members arrested the suspects. The two passengers were not charged.
The driver, Tiana Crandon, 31, of Red Deer County has been charged with two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, two counts of possession of identity documents and failure to comply with undertaking.
Crandon was released after posting bail. She is set to appear at Red Deer provincial court on April 5.
