INNISFAIL - Police are continuing their investigation into the tragic highway accident that claimed the life of a Red Deer woman.

Innisfail RCMP Sgt. Lori Eiler said at about 3:30 a.m. on June 11 local Mounties responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle at Highway 42 and Rge. Rd. 251A in Red Deer County.

Eiler said early investigative evidence reveals four people were travelling in a grey Dodge motor vehicle and went off the road and became stuck in a ditch.

One of the occupants of that vehicle attempted to flag down a passing motorist. Tragically, the occupant was struck by the vehicle.  The 50-year-old female victim from Red Deer was pronounced deceased at the scene, said Eiler.

She said the full identity of the victim is not being released at this time.

She said members from the RCMP Collision Reconstruction Unit attended and probed the scene.

While the scene has since been cleared, the RCMP investigation is continuing, said Eiler.
