For the third straight year Arleen Frank is ready to fight cancer.

The Innisfail resident will participate in the 8th annual Enbridge Ride To Conquer Cancer on Aug. 6 and 7 in Calgary.

She has been participating in the event since her husband Jeff Knowles passed away of cancer in December 2013.

Every year the event raises needed funds to help fight cancer in Alberta.

Combining previous amounts with this year's $2,500, Frank has raised a total of $30,000 over the past three years. All money raised stays in Alberta and goes to benefit the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

“It feels good to do something,” said Frank. “For me I think it's been a part of my healing as well. I feel better giving back,” she added. “A lot of them are cancer survivors who are doing this and when you see them it gives you motivation.”

In the past two years Frank has completed the ride with several family members but this year is participating alongside several work colleagues.

“This year I've joined up with Team CIBC,” she said.

The Enbridge Ride To Conquer Cancer is a two-day event that includes a 200-kilometre ride from Calgary to Okotoks and back.

Frank said it's important for her to continue participating in the event.

“I just want to be able to do something and give back and maybe help someone else in the future,” she added. “It could be me or other family members (that need help one day).”

Frank has been preparing for the challenge and building endurance with long-distance bike rides and running several times a week.

This year she would like to see others come out and take part in the event and help raise money for a worthy cause.

“I just want to encourage more people to participate. It's a way that you can help,” said Frank. “You can get out there, have fun and make a difference.”

In 2015, 1,741 riders took part in the annual event and raised $7.4 million.
