With the weather recently turning nasty with blowing snow and bitterly cold temperatures motorists have been caught dangerously off guard on local and area roadways.

Between Dec. 1 and 8, RCMP responded to 17 reports of vehicle collisions in the area, said Innisfail RCMP Sgt. Lori Eiler.

She said Innisfail RCMP are reminding the public to slow down for winter driving conditions.

“If you become involved in a collision with another vehicle, you should exchange names and insurance information with the other driver,” said Eiler. “If the damage to your vehicle is over $2,000, you must report the collision to the RCMP.

“Please remember to bring with you your driver's licence and current insurance and registration documents, as well as the name of the other driver,” she added. “Only collisions where the estimated damages are over $2,000 or where a person has been injured are reportable to police.”
