INNISFAIL - École John Wilson Elementary School shared the festive spirit with its annual kindergarten Christmas concert.

The event is held every December and showcases talent and progress made by kindergarten students.

This year, a total of four kindergarten classes and about 80 students, aged four to six, presented their annual Christmas concert.

“We will have poems and songs. Each class has an individual part in the concert,” said Janice Savage, one of two kindergarten teachers along with Terri Schaitel. “The majority of (songs) are sung together.”

This year the kindergarten classes presented their concert on a different night from the other grades. The remaining students in grades 1 to 4 hold their Christmas concert this week, Dec.19 and 20.

While there was no set theme for the concert this year, it did revolve around enjoyable things to do during the Christmas season.

“We sing about Santa, we sing about reindeer and we sing about snow falling. It's all things about our winter season and Christmas holiday,” said Savage, noting how excited students were to perform in the concert in front of family and friends.

“They're very excited to come dressed in their fancy Christmas clothes,” she added, noting students practised for the Christmas concert for several weeks since the first week of November.

“We have a music specialist, Jill Cummins, who practised with the kids as well as us,” she said, pointing out some of the Christmas music the children sang that night.

Songs included Christmas ABCs, Vivre Le Vent (French version of Jingle Bells) and the Reindeer Pokey.

“We're very excited to see how much they've grown, even since September and how excited they are to show their families all of their songs that they've been practising,” Savage concluded.
