INNISFAIL - Area families took in the holiday festivities at the Innisfail and District Historical Village on Saturday.

Christmas at the Village took place Nov. 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. and included Christmas carols, hot chocolate, wagon rides, Christmas crafts and a visit from jolly old Santa Claus himself.

“A good number of families have come through so far today,” said Anna Lenters, historical society president. “We'll see about 100 people before the day is over, basing on last year's event and taking into account the better weather.”

Despite some cold temperatures, Mother Nature cooperated for this year's annual Christmas event, providing sunshine for most of the day.

“Santa Claus is here, the children can do a craft, and for a nominal fee they can purchase a hot chocolate and sausage on a bun, and they can enjoy the hay wagon rides,” said Lenters, adding the event was helping raise funds for the Innisfail and District Food Bank and historical village.

“The event is free, but we do ask for a food donation and they can make a donation to our organization if they choose,” she added, noting the volunteers who helped make the day a success.

“Joy's School of Dance is here volunteering their time and the Rangers (Girl Guides of Canada) are here volunteering too, and a thank you goes to the staff who did all the pre-planning.

“It is a community event,” said Lenters. “It is part of our mandate to reach out to our community and this is one way to do it.”
