PENHOLD - A local senior is officially listed in life-threatening condition after sustaining serious burns from a fire that started near a medical appliance in her home.

However, Jim Pendgergast, fire chief of the Penhold Fire Department, said on June 21, after his crews responded and successfully dealt with the fire, that the senior's condition appeared to be improving.

"Things had progressed far more positively by the time we got her to the hospital," he said.
Shortly after noon hour on June 21 three units and nine firefighters, along with EMS, were called to a residence on Augustus Way after receiving a report of a citizen suffering from burns.
Pendergast said a 66-year-old female was transported to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, initially in life-threatening condition.
He said the fire was started near a medical appliance and was contained "more to just the person" in the immediate area. Pendergast said there was no damage to property.
There were no other injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
