INNISFAIL – Christmas traditions are often an important part of the holiday season.
The Innisfail Library/Learning Centre welcomes families to learn about different Christmas traditions during a special presentation, Christmas Traditions Here and There, on Dec. 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We have a presenter coming in to share their Christmas traditions. They are originally from a different country,” said Sara Kepper, library manager. “It's an event for the whole family.”
Kepper said the library is putting the spotlight on different cultural experiences this year through a number of different events.
“We want to bring in different cultures in different ways through the library,” said Kepper. “We had Angus Cockney, an Inuit sculptor, earlier in the year presenting (about Inuit art and culture) and this is just another way to bring in a different culture.”
The three-hour presentation will include interactive activities for the family and may also have food and crafts from a particular country.
“There's going to be activities as well,” said Kepper, noting that youth and adult programmer Cindy Walker will organize and host the event. “It's the first time we've had the Christmas traditions presentation.”
Kepper said it's a great way for families to enjoy learning about and experiencing different Christmastime traditions, foods and crafts from other parts of the world.
“It will expand their horizons, help them learn about different cultures and just experience different traditions around Christmas,” said Kepper. “They may find something that they want to incorporate into their own Christmas traditions too.”
