Staff and students at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Catholic School have put on an entertaining display of the arts during their annual talent show.

The event took place on March 22 in the school gymnasium.

“This is the fourth year in a row that we've done the talent show,” said Diana Bushell, the school's music teacher. “There were lots of really good performances especially towards the end with some of the older kids.”

The talent show featured a total of 20 performances from 32 kids, noted Bushell.

Students from grades 5 to 9 took part in the annual event and presented a variety of acts in different artistic disciplines, including singing, dancing and playing musical instruments, such as piano and guitar.

Bushell said the idea for the talent show came together several years ago when a student asked about putting on such a show.

“I thought it was a really good idea to allow the students to showcase their talents in front of everyone,” said Bushell. “I think it's great for students to perform in front of people and learn to get over the stage fright that they may have when they're younger. The more times they have to perform, the more comfortable they are doing it,” she added.

There was no theme for this year's talent show but every year offers something a little bit different, she said.

“There's always the usual singers, guitar and piano players, but there's always something a little bit unique each time as well,” explained Bushell. “Teachers have never been a part of it before, but this year teachers did their own act -- a big number at the end of the show,” she said. “There was about 10 teachers that did a dance, which was pretty hilarious and entertaining. The kids got a big kick out of that,” said Bushell.

The talent show also helped students develop stage presence and confidence.

“It was nice to see the kids who were really nervous before they went on stage, to be so happy when they came off stage,” Bushell concluded.
