INNISFAIL - Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning Saturday morning for the Red Deer - Ponoka - Innisfail - Stettler area.

Heavy snow is expected throughout Saturday, with total amounts of 10 to 20 centimetres (cm).

"The heaviest snow will fall this afternoon and tonight, with the highest snow totals expected in areas east of Highway 2," the warning states.

The federal agency says snow will taper off Sunday morning.

"Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected," the warning concluded.

A warning is issued in Alberta when 10 cm or more of snow falls within 12 hours or less.
