Splendid strawberry tea and crumpets

There was a little more to this year’s Florence Nightingale – Strawberry Tea event than just the tea and crumpets.

There was a little more to this year’s Florence Nightingale – Strawberry Tea event than just the tea and crumpets.

During this year’s event, which was held on May 6 at Sunset Manor, the Innisfail Health Centre Auxiliary graciously donated a work by a local artist to the manor as a thank you for allowing the auxiliary to host the annual event there.

Artist Teresa Rolvink donated the artwork, a 5 ft. by 4 ft. framed crocheted image of the Last Supper, to the auxiliary. It will eventually hang in the manor’s chapel, where the building’s residents can appreciate it.

Rolvink said she spent about three months working on the piece and was glad to see it in its new home.

“I think it’s great,” she said.

“It’s wonderful,” hospital auxiliary president Mary Myers added.

“We really appreciate what she has done for our auxiliary. This is the second picture she has given us to fundraise with.”

The auxiliary sent out letters to the local corporate sector and service clubs in mid-February asking for their fundraising support. Myers said many local businesses, individuals, and service clubs, including the Kinnettes, Kinsmen, Lion’s Club, and the Royal Canadian Legion’s Ladies’ Auxiliary, stepped up to help out.

“They were all generous supporters of our cause.”

The auxiliary is still accepting donations.

In addition to operating the Innisfail Hospital Gift Shop, the Innisfail Health Centre Auxiliary works to give patients, residents and staff the equipment, services and programs that are above and beyond what is covered by the Government of Alberta. Over the past five years, the auxiliary has raised about $63,230 through the tea, the annual Beef-on-a-Bun, raffles, and other donations.
