INNISFAIL – Spring Registration is back and for the first time it will be held at the Innisfail Twin Arena.
The town’s annual tradition to showcase the community’s wide range of services and recreational opportunities will be held at the arena’s red rink on March 8 from 6 to 8 p.m.
There is no charge for the public to attend, nor any fee for exhibitors.
“It is back to what we like to be able to host where we can get a bunch of groups together at the arena and display what there is to do in Innisfail for spring and summer in 2022,” said Kane Williams, the town’s recreation program coordinator.
Williams said it was first time the town has been able to run Spring Registration in the arena. In 2021, the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, Spring Registration was held in the common area of the Innisfail High School.
Before the pandemic years, the event was either held in the gym of the Innisfail Middle School or at the Innisfail Library/Learning Centre.
As for the new availability of the arena, Williams noted in past years there would be still be ice on the red rink this time of year but because of the town’s updated booking policy there was added flexibility to take out the ice sooner than in past years.
He said 15 local services and organizations have so far signed up for booths, with others possibly joining.
Most of the town’s minor sports organizations have registered to attend.
There will also be tables for the Innisfail & Area Family Day Home Society, Innisfail Alliance Church, Innisfail and District Garden Club, Innisfail and District Historical Village, Arashi Do Penhold, Discoveries Playschool, Innisfail Senior Drop-In Society, Little Scholars Preschool, Spring Fever Road Hockey Tournament and Youth Action Innisfail.
Williams said there will likely be no COVID restrictions as the province has removed the Restrictions Exemption Program, and could possibly end the requirement for masking by March 8.
“It’s super encouraging. It’s going to be a great opportunity to showcase what’s going on with all the great programs, activities and events that are now coming back to Innisfail,” said Williams. “It’s going to be a celebration, and to remember, ‘Oh yes, right. You guys host a spring road hockey tournament and I want to be a part of that.’ or, ‘Yes, right there are things going on with the garden club that I did not know were happening.
“It’s going to be a chance to see a lot of the people that they haven’t seen in a little while, and just catch up and understand what’s happening,” he said.
