INNISFAIL – It’s strawberry tea time.

The Florence Nightingale Strawberry Tea Hospital Fundraiser has been an annual event for several years, hosted by the Innisfail and District Hospital Auxiliary.

“It’s quite a tradition,” said Rose Winters, president of the hospital auxiliary. “We get a good turnout every year. It’s a favourite event for seniors; they really seem to enjoy it.”

The event takes place at the Innisfail Library/Learning Centre on April 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. and will include coffee, tea, cake, ice cream and strawberries, as well as a bake sale.

Tickets are $5 and are available at the door.

“The doors open at 1:30 p.m. because we have a bake sale available,” said Winters, noting there will also be door prizes available. “When people come to the tea, they will get a ticket to enter the door prize draw.”

All funds raised from both the strawberry tea and the bake sale will go towards needed items for the Innisfail hospital, said Winters.

“We’ve received some requests. They are looking for four (modern) heart monitors,” she said. “They don’t get them replaced unless they totally break down.”

In addition, the auxiliary also bought other items this year for the Rosefield Centre in Innisfail.

“We had bought several chairs and loveseats for Rosefield Centre. They are electric, recliner chairs so that people can lift themselves right out of the chair,” said Winters. “We like to buy equipment that they need and things to make the patients more comfortable and happy,” she added, noting such items as televisions and bed lifts that they’ve purchased in the past.

"People in Innisfail are really good at supporting these (fundraisers),” said Winters. “We hope to have a good turnout.”
