INNISFAIL – Drama students at Innisfail High School took to the stage for their final production of the semester.
The performance took place at the school on Dec. 13 and 14 and included five short, student-directed, one-act plays, ranging in length from 15 to 30 minutes.
"It was like a final grading of what we learned throughout the semester,” said Grade 12 student Russel Paulsen.
The plays were a collaborative effort, with students working together on many aspects of theatre including building stage sets, designing costumes, directing, lighting and conducting rehearsals.
In addition, students also learned about acting and performing in front of a live audience.
"I liked doing the performance because it gives me a chance to show how well I perform in front of a live audience and what I’ve learned (in class), said Paulsen.
Fellow classmate Chelsea Anderson also enjoyed performing on stage.
"That’s when you can truly see the hard work of memorizing lines, figuring out how you’re going to move on stage and of lighting and sound,” said Anderson. "It all comes together.”
Grade 11 student Denver Craig said he enjoyed learning about the different aspects of theatre.
"We learned about the history of theatre and all its progressions throughout -- since ancient Greece to now,” said Craig.
About 20 to 30 students in grades 10, 11 and 12 took part in the end-of-semester production.
Each short play had its own title and theme. Paulsen and Anderson performed in Words, Words, Words while Craig performed in A Sure Thing.
