Students' work vandalized

French immersion students at École St. Marguerite Bougeoys School arrived at school Thursday morning to find their scarecrow family, on display outside, had been vandalized.

The scarecrows had been pushed over and ripped apart with clothes and shoes scattered by the building. The sign, taped to the building behind the display, had been burned.

The students, kindergarten to Grade 4 “were excited to showcase the French culture at the Innisfail Scarecrow Festival this year,” explained Teresa Henry, at École St. Marguerite Bourgeoys School. “Unfortunately, the festival will not be running this year but the students chose to carry on with the tradition at the school,” she said, adding they hope to see it return next year.

On Wednesday, the group completed the French scarecrow family and put it on display outside the school.

Henry said they should be able to put the family back together, but whether they will leave it outside is still to be decided.
