INNISFAIL – The audience at the 2017 Community & Business Awards Gala on Oct. 13 was told something special about Larrie Davis, the regional vice president of Primerica.

His philosophy is simple: “If a kid is selling something you should buy it, whether it's Girl Guide cookies, popcorn or raffle tickets.”

Davis has been a part of Innisfail community for more than three decades, and he and his company have made a huge difference in the lives of the numerous groups and organizations, particularly those serving the youth.

“Every business needs to contribute a little bit towards the town,” said Davis, who has been an Innisfail Lions Club member for 33 years and president for three terms, and most recently a director on Big Brothers Big Sisters for three years.

The many contributions Davis has made to the community over the past 30 years have earned him and his company this year's Business Contribution Award, sponsored by the Innisfail & District Chamber of Commerce.

Along with his wife Judy, those contributions include prompting the Lions club to build the playground and picnic shelter in Raspberry Park in 2004, and then the toboggan hill in 2012. He has chaired many events such as car raffles and the May Day Yahoo.

Davis has also helped out many community organizations, even sponsoring a trade show booth each year for local service groups. Other groups that benefit from his support are STARS, Generations Church in Jamaica, and of course, any kid selling something.

“We did a lot of stuff around town, some of them not very obvious but some of them obvious,” said Davis, who was proud to be this year's award recipient. “It is recognition of doing stuff we need to do.”
