Town council approved a $331,908.98 contract to Red Deer's Tar-ific Construction at its June 13 regular meeting to do the work.

Henry Wong, the town's director of community services, told council that during deliberations for the past budget process, filling in gaps in the town's walking trail network was identified as a priority, and funds were allocated for 2016.

Council was told a dozen walking trail locations were listed as a priority, including new ones for Beverly Cove Park, Napoleon Lake South, Madison Park and at the Innisfail and District Historical Village. Wong's report to council also said repair work will also be done at the historical village and Napoleon Park.

Wong told council the town had no prior experience working with Tar-ific Construction but feedback from references were “positive and reassuring.”

His report said the Red Deer company proposed a start date of June 20 for the asphalt work on the 12 walking trail locations. The completion date is set at Sept. 9.
