The Town of Innisfail is getting ready to recognize its best and most influential citizens of 2014.

Every year the town recognizes local citizens for outstanding contributions to the community. Eligible citizens can be nominated by non-family members in the following categories: Community Builder, Community Cultural Award, Citizen of the Year, Leaders of Tomorrow, Mayor's Recognition, Coach Recognition, Sports Team of the Year, and the Female/Male Athlete of the Year.

“The Innisfail and District Chamber of Commerce will also be recognizing winners of the 2014 Small Business Awards at the same gala held in the fall,” said Monica Murray, the town's recreation programmer.

Last year's award winners included Gary Patrick (Citizen of the Year), Hazel Holoboff (Community Culture Award), Kristen Spatz (Community Builder Award), Kirsten Baumgardt and Quinn Layden (Female/Male Athlete of the Year), Tom DeRuyter (Coach Recognition), and Quinn Layden was recognized as a Leader of Tomorrow.

“Nominations will go to the selection committee and are chosen based on the criteria we have set,” said Murray. “Letters of support from organizations, and individuals along with a list of significant accomplishments are part of the application process.”

Nominations for the 2014 Small Business Awards must be forwarded to the chamber by Sept. 5. The 2014 Small Business Awards categories include Small Business, Farm Family, Business Contribution Award and Customer Service Award. Nomination forms for the Small Business Awards can be downloaded from the Innisfail Chamber of Commerce website at www.innisfaillive.ca.

A community awards criteria brochure and nomination forms for the Community Service Awards can be downloaded from the Town of Innisfail website at www.innisfail.ca. The deadline for nominations is Sept.8.
