INNISFAIL — Several community groups and non-profit organizations recently received financial support from the town’s Community Services Standing Committee.

On March 15, the committee approved one municipal Community Grant application and five others from the Innisfail Solar Corporation Community Benefit Grant program.

The committee approved a Community Grant application from the Henday Association for Lifelong Learning as well as the Innisfail Welcoming and Inclusive Communities Committee for $2,500 for its School Fence Community Heart Mural project.

The committee was told the funds would be used exclusively for the creation of the mural, including wooden hearts in various sizes, brushes, acrylic paint, shellac, wire, and installation supplies.

Under the Community Grant program, local organizations can access funding up to $2,500 to support recreation, culture, sport programs or events.

Eligible programs must be related to arts and culture, parks and the environment or recreation, sport and leisure and also be open for the enjoyment and benefit of the entire community.

The Innisfail Solar Corporation Community Benefit Grant program was established through a financial contribution from Innisfail Solar Corporation/Elemental Energy, a Vancouver-based company that created the new solar farm in the northwest corner of Innisfail.

The Innisfail Solar Corporation Community Benefit fund provides $10,000 annually to be distributed to community organizations. The municipality received six applications for 2022.

Under this benefit grant program, the committee approved $725 to the Innisfail Music Program for the purchase of new uniforms for the middle and high school bands.

The committee approved a $2,800 request from the Central Alberta United Way for its Period Promise program for the installation of six dispensers for the distribution of free menstrual hygiene products such as pads and tampons at the Innisfail Aquatic Centre, Innisfail Public Library and Innisfail Twin Arena.

The Innisfail and District Historical Society was successful in its benefit grant application for funds to purchase a main entrance gate replacement. The society received $4,925.

The committee then approved an Innisfail Public Library application for benefit grant support for outdoor programming space. The library received $1,500.

As well, the new Innisfail Special Events Planning Society was successful in seeking financial support for its planned Harvest Festival in September. The society received $1,100.

And finally, town council approved a motion on March 14 at its regular meeting to support the Daines Ranch Pro Rodeo this upcoming June by sponsoring the event with $2,500.
