INNISFAIL – The ongoing dry weather has forced the Town of Innisfail to declare a local fire ban.
“Instituted as a precautionary measure, the ban comes as a number of fires continue to burn throughout the province due to a prolonged period of dry conditions,” said a media release issued by the Town of Innisfail on May 2.
Under the fire ban, issued under the direction of Innisfail Fire Department Chief Gary Leith, residents are not permitted to burn outside, even in designated fire pits.
This measure includes charcoal barbecues and recreational fires.
The ban applies to public and private property.
Fires fuelled by propane or natural gas are still permitted, provided they are contained within approved cooking or heating appliances.
Use of catalytic or infrared-style heaters is also still permitted.
Fires that are used for operational purposes and are contained within industrial facilities are permitted under the ban.
Use of catalytic or infrared-style heaters is also still permitted.
Regulations on the Town’s fire ban are listed under the Town’s Fire Services Bylaw 1522-2015 section 5.1(d).
