INNISFAIL - RCMP have arrested a trio of suspected thieves following a police chase on Highway 2.
Innisfail RCMP Cpl. Meghan Bell said the detachment received a call at about 12:40 a.m. on Feb. 12 from a concerned citizen about a suspicious red GMC Sierra in Penhold that appeared to be “lurking around."
Bell said Mounties located the red truck south of Penhold on Highway 2A where it had stopped along the highway next to an occupied grey GMC Sierra.
She said police attempted a traffic stop but both vehicles fled.
The vehicles began travelling in a dangerous manner, including driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 2, said Bell.
She said members from the Innisfail RCMP, assisted by Mounties from Blackfalds, Three Hills and Red Deer, worked together to stop the suspect vehicles.
Bell said the vehicles were seen driving down Rge. Rd. 261, a dead-end road. Mounties converged on the area and the red truck was located stuck in a ditch, she said.
Bell said two suspects were arrested in the red GMC Sierra. Meanwhile, the grey GMC Sierra was located unoccupied further down the road. With the assistance of a Red Deer police dog unit, a male who had fled from the grey GMC Sierra was nabbed, said Bell.
Following further investigation, both the red and grey GMC Sierra vehicles were confirmed as stolen.
Christopher Suderman, 29, and Mickala Schultz, 28, both of Red Deer, are jointly charged with possession of property obtained by crime, theft of a motor vehicle and possession of break-In tools. Suderman is also charged with flight from a peace officer, driving while prohibited, failing to comply with court conditions and multiple provincial offences.
Schultz is also facing three counts of possession of a controlled substance, seven counts of failing to comply with court conditions, and multiple provincial offences.
Khristian Stach, 21, of Calgary has been charged with flight from a peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of break-in tools and driving while prohibited.
Stach was released on an undertaking to attend Red Deer provincial court on March 25, while Suderman and Schultz were remanded in custody to appear in Red Deer provincial court, on March 21.
