Voter turnout in the Innisfail-Sylvan Lake riding jumped more than 15 per cent when compared to the 2008 provincial elections according to calculations made using the unofficial results from Elections Alberta.
In 2008 voter turnout was 40.9 per cent. Using the elector count from Elections Alberta, about 59.27 per cent of voters cast a ballot in the recent provincial election. That number does not include any unregistered voters who registered on election day as that figure will not be available until May 3 when the official results are released.
At the Innisfail polls, 2,540 people cast a ballot on April 23. The unofficial numbers show 5,144 were registered to vote.
In Bowden, which includes the Bowden rural polling division, 673 people voted for the different candidates, of 1,066 registered voters.
The numbers from Penhold polls, which include some rural voters, show about 928 people voted. Registered voters numbered at 1,675 for those polls.
The unofficial results show 875 people voted in the advance Innisfail-Sylvan Lake poll. Mobile Innisfail and Innisfail-Sylvan Lake polls had a total of 162 people vote, while a special Innisfail-Sylvan Lake poll had another 162 voters cast a ballot.
Unofficial results do not show which polls the advance voters were registered in.
Drew Westwater, a spokesman for Elections Alberta, said the official results will include information like spoiled ballots and unregistered voters, which are not part of the unofficial result totals.
