INNISFAIL - A truck and driver suspected of being involved in a fatal hit and run east of Innisfail Thursday have reportedly been found.
A Friday afternoon RCMP update noted that both had been located.
"Innisfail RCMP advise that the investigation is ongoing and additional updates will be provided when available. RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance," the 5:15 p.m. March 29 update concluded.
Police advised the public of a possible suspect on the afternoon of the collision.
Based on initial evidence at the scene, that the vehicle involved in the fatality was described by police as a 2019 or older Chevrolet or GMC 2500 or 3500 HD pickup truck, RCMP said in a Thursday lunch-hour update.
“The vehicle will have damage to its passenger side,” the update noted.
RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said in a media release earlier in the day that at 8:14 a.m. on March 28 Innisfail RCMP was dispatched to a fatal hit and run on Highway 590, about 22 kilometres east of Innisfail near the intersection of Highway 590 and Highway 805.
Savinkoff said EMS and RCMP located a deceased male in the south ditch of Highway 590.
He said the RCMP investigation revealed the male victim was dressed in black clothing and was walking westbound on Highway 590.
Savinkoff said the man was last seen alive walking on the highway at about 6:30 a.m.
He said it was sometime between 6:30 a.m. and 8:09 a.m. that the man was struck by a vehicle that was believed to be travelling east on Highway 590.
He said RCMP are not releasing the identity of the victim at this time.
“RCMP investigators are looking to speak to any drivers that were in that area at that time that may have information,” said Savinkoff. “Specifically, investigators are interested in any dash camera footage that may exist from drivers that were in the area at that time.”
