RCMP said an 11-year-old boy was crossing the street on his way to school when he was struck while walking through the crosswalk by a vehicle travelling northbound on Highway 2A.

The child sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital for medical care. The 79-year-old driver was uninjured.

Convenience store robbed

Innisfail RCMP are trying to find the culprit who robbed the local Mac's Convenience store on Dec. 17.

RCMP said one unknown male entered the store and produced a handgun and demanded cash and cigarettes. The lone night shift worker complied and gave the male an undisclosed amount of cash. The culprit then fled shortly after. The shift worker was not injured.

RCMP immediately probed the area but were unsuccessful in locating the male.

Mounties describe the suspect as being about 5 ft. 5 ins. tall, skinny white skin, dark eyes, wearing a dark blue and grey jacket, having a deep clear voice. RCMP said the man's face and most of his body was covered.

RCMP probe rural break-ins

Innisfail Mounties are probing a pair of rural break-ins that resulted in the thefts of a car, a truck and two safes.

Shortly after noon hour on Dec. 11, RCMP responded to a break and enter at a residence along the C & E Trail in Red Deer County.

Innisfail RCMP Sgt. Lori Eiler said residents of the home were away on vacation and a friend was looking after the house. She said the friend drove by to check on the house and discovered it had been broken into, as well as the Quonset. Eiler said a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta was taken from the Quonset.

She said two safes were also stolen but recovered a few days after. The safes were found empty and had been cut open.

Four days later on Dec. 15 Innisfail RCMP were called to respond to a break and enter in progress in the rural area east of Innisfail on a property near Pine Lake.

Eiler said two unknown males broke into a shop on the property and stole a large amount of equipment, which they loaded into the victim's truck. She said the culprits opened the shop door and fled, stealing all the items including the truck, which is described as a red 2006 Dodge RAM.

She said the culprits also stole a power generator, pressure washer, chainsaw, tools and other miscellaneous items.

The two unknown males were driving a red Ford F-350 with a water tank on the back. Eiler said they also attempted to fill the tank with diesel when their efforts were interrupted by the homeowner who chased them away.

The investigation into both break and enters is continuing.

If any citizen has information about either of these break-ins he or she is asked to call the Innisfail RCMP at 403-227-3342 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or through the Internet at www.tipsubmit.com

Police issue traffic ticket scam alert

Innisfail RCMP are warning the public of a new scam involving emailed traffic tickets after receiving calls this morning from citizens, none of whom were taken in by the scam. Callers reported receiving emails stating that they had received a traffic ticket. Police said the scam emails seen in Innisfail so far have not claimed to be from any recognized organization, and cite “negligent driving” as the reason for the ticket. “As with any unexpected demand for money, recipients need to examine it closely and ask themselves questions about the legitimacy of the claim, including who it's coming from,” said Innisfail RCMP Staff Sgt. Chris Matechuk. “The Innisfail RCMP do not email traffic tickets to citizens. Delete these emails, and whatever you do, do not click on the links in them.” In Innisfail, noted Matechuk, tickets might be sent to drivers through the mail and always include details of the infraction, clear information about methods of payment and timelines, and always include contact phone numbers and options for those wishing more details or to dispute the ticket. Citizens are advised to arm themselves as well as vulnerable people by learning how to recognize and protect themselves and others from fraud. Counterfeit money caper probed

RCMP are seeking the public's assistance to track down a male suspect who attempted to use counterfeit money in Penhold.

Innisfail RCMP Sgt. Lori Eiler said local Mounties responded to a complaint on Dec. 7 of an unknown male attempting to use counterfeit money at the Centex gas station and convenience store in Penhold.

She said staff immediately recognized the money as counterfeit and the male grabbed the bills and left in a purple Dodge Ram truck with a gooseneck trailer on it.

The male is described as being either 19 or 20 years old, with longer hair, wearing a blue ball cap, hoodie and blue jeans.

If anyone has any information about this suspect he or she is asked to contact Innisfail RCMP at 403-227-3342 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or by Internet at www.tipsubmit.com
