Watoto choir returns

The music, song and dance of the Watoto Children's Choir will welcome residents when they make a return visit to Innisfail this Saturday.

The well-known African children's choir has been touring across Canada and will be stopping at several locations throughout Central Alberta, including here at the Innisfail Alliance Church.

“The choir is also coming to Parkland Community Church for a visit and a (mid-afternoon) lunch,” said Gerald Bradbury, pastor at Parkland Community Church. “We are co-hosting the event with the Innisfail Alliance Church.”

The Watoto Children's Choir, a group of African orphans, began in 1994 and has travelled all over the world sharing the plight of Africa's orphaned and vulnerable. This year, they will be performing a song and dance production entitled Oh What Love! They are on tour from January to July 2016.

The choir has made a stop in Innisfail and performed here for the past several years.

“They help raise awareness (about orphans) and raise money to help rescue orphans in Africa,” said Bradbury. “They are alive and vibrant, a spunky group of kids. They're pretty dynamic in their presentation from what I've seen on television,” he added, noting their unique blend of African music, dance and culture as well as their love for God. “It's going to be exciting to see them live.”

The Watoto Children's Choir will be performing a free concert, noted Bradbury. He added there will be a goodwill offering to help the organization with its cross-Canada tour this year.

“Last year, the concert was at the school and I heard it was very well attended, a full house,” said Bradbury. “We're looking forward to the same this year and a great time with them.”

The concert begins at 6 p.m. on April 23 at the Innisfail Alliance Church.
