Women's Day Out is coming

PENHOLD - A Women's Day Out event is being billed as a chance for women to come together and be recognized for their daily contributions.

The Town of Penhold is celebrating women this month with the event to help mark International Women's Day held on March 8 around the world.

The one-day event takes place on March 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Memorial Hall and will include a variety of activities, guest speakers and a catered lunch.

"We really wanted to have the event in March to recognize the significance of International Women's Day," said Jennifer Blaylock, FCSS coordinator for Penhold. "It's to connect women and empower them. We hope they leave the event feeling connected, rejuvenated and appreciated.

"It's going to be a relaxing, fun day," she added. "Each participant will leave with a little swag bag."

Blaylock said it's been several years since the town held a women's day event.

"There has been a break for a few years. This year we thought that we would try to revive it but have it a little scaled down from what it was."

The Women's Day Out event will feature guests and engaging activities.

"There's going to be a mini-session on how to dress for your body type with Cheeky Coutures. Then we have a session on belly dancing with Sultans Choice Belly Dance Studio," said Blaylock. "We'll wrap up the day by watching a movie call Eat, Pray, Love with Julia Roberts."

There is a small fee to help cover costs for the event, she noted.

"It's just $10. We wanted to make it affordable," said Blaylock, noting that they are keeping the event to a small scale with about 40 spots available for the day.

Participants are asked to register for the Women's Day Out event by March 20 to confirm numbers for the catered lunch. They can do so online by visiting www.townofpenhold.ca or by calling or dropping by the town office.

"We're looking forward to spending our day with a lot of great women," Blaylock concluded.
