Women of all ages participated in the first-ever Women’s Health Day in Bowden on Sunday. Put on by the Bowden School of Dance, the health day featured a number of wellness activities and information sessions for participants.
“This is the first year we are putting on the health day. I saw in the paper that it had been done in other towns and thought we should do one here,” said Alicia Heit, Bowden School of Dance teacher.
“I wanted it to be all about health and thought it would be something good for Bowden.”
The morning featured a self-defence class taught by Bowden Grandview School principal Wayne Pineau, who teaches Karate at Arashi-Do martial arts in Bowden. Participants cooled down after the self-defence class with a yoga class taught by Alicia Heit, then later worked on their fitness with a home workout class and a hip-hop class.
The keynote speaker for the wellness day was Corrie Monk who talked on self-esteem and boundaries.
A bake sale was held to support the Bowden School of Dance and a trade fair took place throughout the day where home sales consultants had tables set up displaying different kinds of items that ranged from spices and food to clothes and beauty products.
This year marks Bowden School of Dance’s 10th anniversary and their final recital will be on May 14 at the TransCanada Theatre in Olds.
