INNISFAIL – The town is inching closer to creating a policies and procedures manual for its Animal Control Bylaw.
“We’ll be presenting to council in the near future, likely in August,” said Todd Becker, the town's chief administrative officer, adding staff will first complete their review before presenting it to council in the coming weeks.
Becker said last month following the controversial death of Mikey the cat that the town would immediately work on bringing in new animal control procedures.
He said he could not specify details or outline the policies and procedures until after council has had a chance to look at it.
“We’ll report that out to council and what it all contains. They need to have their ears on it first, that’s our direction,” said Becker. “We report to council so we’ll deliver that to council and it’ll be outlined when we do that.”
Becker added they would like to complete the review and have the policies and procedures available as soon as possible.
“I’m anticipating it’s going to be in the very near future, that’s the intent,” said Becker, noting no timeline is available. “We need to see what we’re delivering in the report and the information and we’ll take it from there. I cannot anticipate what that is at this given time.”
In addition, they have been seeking applicants to fill an open position for a peace officer in the Town of Innisfail following the resignation of Brandi Gray.
Currently, the town has one peace officer on duty and is seeking to fill a second position.
“We are continuing (with) the recruitment of a new community peace officer. The recruitment process has been initiated and it’s ongoing,” said Becker, noting several conversations and interviews have taken place.
“The process is in full motion and we’re looking to hire the right individual for our community and organization,” said Becker.
