Alberta Health Services (AHS) is helping people across Central Alberta live healthier lives.

Several workshops this fall, from October to December, are being presented at the Innisfail Library/Learning Centre, as part of the Alberta Healthy Living Program (AHLP), a provincial initiative created to promote healthy living and provide access to helpful information.

AHS is currently hosting the “Better Choices, Better Health” workshop, which is designed to help citizens gain confidence and develop skills to overcome the physical and emotional challenges of living with long-term health conditions. There will be additional workshops heading into 2016, including “Craving Change”, “Diabetes the Basics”, “Heart Wise: Managing Blood Pressure & Cholesterol”, “Supervised Exercise” and “Weight Wise Workshops”.

AHLP is aiming to educate citizens, have them gain confidence and develop skills to deal with the challenges of various long-term health issues and chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart health, weight management, reducing and managing stress, and nutrition.

The workshops include disease-specific information and general health and lifestyle topics.

In addition, AHLP is providing self-management support services and supervised exercises (facility or home-based).

All AHLP workshop sessions are being held in several communities across Central Alberta including Innisfail, Olds and Sundre, and are led by AHS professionals.

For more information on the workshops call 1-877-314-6997.
