Area church congregations and students at École St. Marguerite Bourgeoys School gathered during various events last week to celebrate World Day of Prayer.
The annual event is traditionally held on the first Friday of March and is celebrated by Christians all over the world.
The World Day of Prayer movement was started by Christian women from many different traditions who decided to come together to observe the same day of prayer. The motto of the day is, “Informed Prayer and Prayerful Action.”
Students and staff at École St. Marguerite Bourgeoys School gathered in song last Tuesday to mark the special day.
Members of a number of different churches gathered together to pray for those in need and up to six churches in Innisfail usually participate.
This year the World Day of Prayer service was held by the Church of the Nazarene.
Every year women from a different country write the service and they choose a different theme, this year the country being focused on was Chile and the theme was, “How many loaves have you?”
The services done by different countries help people to experience the faith of Christians in other countries. It also highlights countries that may be in need and helps people to see the plight of others.
This is the third year that St. Marguerite has participated in World Day of Prayer celebrations.
