INNISFAIL – A young man is recovering in hospital after an incident at Skydive Big Sky, near Innisfail Saturday afternoon.
Innisfail Fire and EMS were called to a skydiving accident on July 14 at the Innisfail Airport at about 4 p.m.
A male, about 20 years of age, suffered suspected spinal injuries as a result of a bad landing, according to Gary Leith, Innisfail fire chief and manager of fire and protective services.
“We called in STARS (air ambulance) and he was medevaced to Foothills hospital in a stable but serious condition,” said Leith. “He was conscious, breathing, and it did look like he had suspected spinal injuries as a result of the landing. That’s why STARS was brought in.”
At press time, it was unknown where the man was from.
Representatives from Skydive Big Sky would not comment on the incident, citing privacy of the family and those involved.
“We value all of our students and all of our employees and everyone who skydives here,” said a Skydive Big Sky employee who wished to remain anonymous. “That is something that is in part of the waiver, that we protect their privacy in an incident. So as a company, we do not disclose any information.”
They would also not confirm any details except that he is in stable condition as per media reports, they noted.
“At the end of the day, this person’s life is worth far more to us than a story.”
