Young woman killed in rural area crash

A Ponoka teen is dead following a single-vehicle collision at a highway intersection near Pine Lake. Innisfail RCMP Sgt. Lori Eiler said on Jan. 24 at about 1 a.m.

A Ponoka teen is dead following a single-vehicle collision at a highway intersection near Pine Lake.

Innisfail RCMP Sgt. Lori Eiler said on Jan. 24 at about 1 a.m. local Mounties responded to a report of a single vehicle collision at Highway 42, west of the Highway 816 intersection.

Eiler said a motorist reported he had been travelling eastbound on Highway 42 and saw a vehicle severely damaged in the ditch and called 911.

She said the vehicle had been travelling eastbound on Highway 42 when it exited the highway and rolled, striking a number of trees.

Red Deer County Fire Department and Red Deer EMS attended the scene.

Eiler said a 19-year-old female from Ponoka and the lone occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene.

She said road and weather conditions were excellent at the time of the accident.

Eiler said a cause to the crash has not yet been determined.
