INNISFAIL - Two young females were seriously hurt during a recent early morning two-vehicle crash on the west side of town.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Highway 54 and Lakewood Drive near the Innisfail Golf Club at about 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 19.
Seven local firefighters, who were assisted by EMS, RCMP and local peace officers, responded to the call, said Gary Leith, chief of the Innisfail Fire Department. He said firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate the two seriously injured women from their vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle suffered only minor injuries, said Leith.
He said one lane of Highway 54 and Lakewood Drive was closed off to traffic to allow STARS air ambulance to land and transport the most seriously injured woman to Calgary. Leith said the other injured female sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
"It was still fairly serious but not life-threatening," he said, adding it appeared the second female suffered a fractured pelvis and was transported by ground ambulance to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.
The ages and places of residence of the two injured women were not released. Innisfail RCMP continue to investigate the collision.
Leith added Oct. 19 was a busy day for local firefighters as they responded to several calls, including two motor vehicle accidents, an EMS response to a hazardous materials incident, a mutual aid call to Red Deer County and an outside fire that required support from Bowden firefighters.
