INNISFAIL – A Yukon man who reportedly smashed his way through Innisfail’s Sunset Manor during a drunken rampage in the early morning hours of last Dec. 10 has been sentenced to probation and a suspended sentence.
Kale Michon, 22, a resident of Dawson City, Yukon, was charged with assault, break and enter, and mischief over $5,000.
Michon appeared in Red Deer Court of Justice on March 19 and pleaded guilty to the assault and mischief over $5,000 charges.
On those charges, the court handed down a suspended sentence and 12 months probation. The charge of break and enter was withdrawn.
Just over three months ago, RCMP reported that at 3:45 a.m. on Dec. 10 Innisfail RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter at Sunset Manor, a supportive living facility in the southeast side of Innisfail.
RCMP said in a media release that police learned that a male smashed through the front entrance of Sunset Manor after earlier being turned away by staff.
“He took a park bench and smashed through the front entryway,” RCMP told the Albertan. “Once he was in there he broke a television, toppled a Christmas tree by physically turning it upside down, damaged three chairs by throwing them about and caused a fairly significant amount of damage.”
The RCMP spokesperson added the suspect then “chased” a staff member around and “punched him and grabbed at the staff member (and) wrestled him."
RCMP said the nurse did not appear to have sustained serious injuries but an Innisfail RCMP police officer broke his ankle while responding to the mayhem at Sunset Manor.
The accused was ultimately apprehended, and was “fairly co-operative” once police arrived, said RCMP, adding impairment by drugs or alcohol were “both in play’ with the police file.
