MONTREAL — New Zealand filmmaker Jane Campion is scheduled to promote her latest film, "The Power of the Dog," at Montreal's Festival du nouveau cinéma next month.
The film, which premièred at the Venice International Film Festival last week, will be shown in Montreal on Oct. 7. Campion will also be awarded the festival's Louve d’honneur award for her body of work and will conduct a master class as part of the festival.
Campion became the first woman director to win the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1993 for her film "The Piano."
"The Power of the Dog," which stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons and Kodi Smit-McPhee, is scheduled to be released in Canadian theatres on Nov. 19 and will be streamed on Netflix starting Dec. 1.
The western film, based on a novel by Thomas Savage, was co-produced by Canadian filmmaker and producer Roger Frappier.
The 50th edition of the Festival du nouveau cinéma takes place from Oct. 6 to 17.
