TORONTO — A new global, digital festival produced and organized by Tribeca Enterprises and YouTube will have some Canadian contributions.

The Toronto International Film Festival is among the 21 festivals co-curating programming for We Are One: A Global Film Festival, which starts Friday and runs through June 7.

TIFF will present Isaac Nabwana's Ugandan gonzo action flick "Crazy World," which debuted in the Toronto festival's Midnight Madness section last year but hasn't screened since.

YouTube says this version of "Crazy World" includes a new scene that has been added to the film narrative specifically and exclusively for the We Are One festival.

TIFF's We Are One offerings also include a 2019 talk by Viggo Mortensen and David Cronenberg about his film "Crash," and a 2018 Tantoo Cardinal master class moderated by Danis Goulet.

And the National Film Board of Canada says seven works that it either produced or co-produced are in the 10-day event.

They include the animated shorts "Shannon Amen" by Chris Dainty, and "The Procession" by Pascal Blanchet and Rodolphe Saint-Gelais, both of which have been on the festival circuit.

Other NFB titles selected include the virtual reality animation work "Minotaur" by Munro Ferguson, and a series of four animated films co-directed by Pierre-Luc Granjon: "Leon in Wintertime," "Molly in Springtime," "Bonifacio in Summertime" and "Poppety in the Fall."

Other homegrown works in the lineup include Toronto-based video artist Jean-Paul Kelly's short film "Service of the goods," curated by the New York Film Festival.

And the short "Throat Singing in Kangirsuk" by Eva Kaukai and Manon Chamberland, curated by the Sundance Film Festival.

Festivals from Venice, Berlin and Cannes are among the others joining forces for We Are One, which will also allow audiences to donate to COVID-19 relief efforts through a donate button or link on every film page.

The event marks an unprecedented collaboration between global festivals as they grapple with how to move forward during the pandemic.
