More than two dozen artists displayed about 150 paintings during the Sundre Art Society’s show and sale.
“We had 28 artists who entered their work,” said society president Lila Weiss, adding that is pretty consistent with previous years.
Roughly 300 people made their way through the Sundre West Country Centre on the afternoons of April 28 and 29 to check out the Harvest Time-themed 43rd annual show and sale.
“It was a good turnout,” said Weiss, adding that the event has in the past drawn out as many as 350 art enthusiasts, but that this year’s number was nevertheless fairly average.
Approximately 30 paintings were purchased, with 10 per cent of the proceeds supporting the society. When Weiss spoke with the Round Up last week, the final tally on the amount raised had not yet been determined.
The quality of the works of art displayed was really good, she said.
“We had a nice collection of harvest pictures” that featured scenes such as a little boy milking a cow, pumpkins, as well as a horse-drawn binder for cutting grain, she said.
Members of the viewing public were also offered the opportunity to vote on their favourite piece. A variety of works received votes, but the most popular one turned out to be a painting called Crystaline by Jim Brown.
While the show and sale is the society’s main event of the year, there are still other events lined up such as two workshops that will be scheduled next winter, she said, adding details would be announced at a later date.
Meanwhile, the group also plans to continue meeting at the Sundre Municipal Library for paint-in sessions on the first and third Saturdays of the month until June. The informal gathering of the society’s members will resume with one monthly paint-in this September, although the organization has not yet decided which Saturday of the month, she said.
