Olds High School will hold its annual winter concert on Dec. 7 at the TransCanada Theatre.
This year, the usual music groups will be joined by a new one: the drumline group.
“It's all drums,” said Karri Anderson, band, choir and guitar teacher at OHS.
“We have only been up and running for about five weeks. It is brand new.”
Anderson was first introduced to drumline while she was teaching in California. After seeing the Chestermere High School drumline group perform, she decided to start one at Olds High School.
“We received funding to put the program together. It was expensive,” she said.
Moreover, the 10 students involved in drumline recently had the opportunity to have a clinic with members of the Calgary Stampede Showband.
The winter concert will be the first opportunity for the drumline group to perform publicly. Other groups performing at the concert will be the senior band, the choir, Stomp and the jazz band.
“It will be a big variety,” said Anderson.
While the concert will be held before Christmas, spectators should not expect too many Christmas songs.
“There is a little bit of Christmas music but mostly it is just kind of band concert,” said Anderson.
“I call it more of a holiday concert.”
Admission to the concert will be through a donation.
