Musician Dustin Bentall is performing at Tracks Pub this Friday, Feb. 22.
It will be his first time performing in Olds.
Bentall is the son of Canadian singer-songwriter Barney Bentall, who fronted the 1990s band Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts. One of their most famous tunes was Something To Live For.
Dustin now carries on in his father’s footsteps.
“I grew up in a musical household so it came pretty naturally,” said Bentall about how he first got into music.
“It’s so therapeutic, writings songs throughout — things you go through during your life,” he said.
Bentall says performing is a rush unlike anything else.
“It’s certainly something you get addicted to, you need it.”
Bentall says one of his biggest influences has been Tom Petty and has connected with his music from a young age.
While talking with the Albertan, Bentall spoke about his father’s impact on his musical life.
“He had such a good, solid reputation around the country so when I started touring I felt that, and made a lot of really great connections.
“He’s very respected in the community. He’s helped me along the way with anything I needed and (passed on) advice and knowledge.
“You know he definitely kind of stood back and let me find my own path and sound; he’s never pushed on me,” said Bentall.
As for what to expect from his show, he explained that he’ll be debuting a new band that he’s playing with.
“It’s a bunch of great players from Alberta and my bass player's coming out from Vancouver,” he said.
The show will start at 8 p.m. and admission is $10.
